Concept:

From iconic choreography of musical films produced during the years of the disco era (70s and 80s), the piece draws an analogy between dance as ecstasy and evasion and dance as work and profession, within a palindrome structure that functions as a deformed mirror that extends and distorts this relationship to make us reflect on our own work and existential realities.

Copying, remixing or destroying the choreographies of John Travolta and Patrick Swayze, the piece transcends the cliché they represent to unfold a sweaty reflection about the different tyrannical relationships that are inherent in the theatrical convention, such between the maker and the market, the choreographer and the dancers, or the performers and the audience. And it presents disco as a new political space for physical and festive subversion.

A dance group piece, politically demanding and artistically irreverent, that operates in that space between the disco and the dance studio, between the party and the labor, between individual freedom and collective obligations.

Realization:

The piece is created and performed by 8 dancers and is intended to be presented in big theaters within the normal performance evening time. It has a complex set, light and video design that makes it obligatory to have two days of montage.
